FILM OPENING- INDIANNA JONES and the raiders of the lost dark
Directed by Steven SpielbergThe genre of this film is action and adventure. The beginning of the film starts with an establishing shot of the top peak of the mountain. This was an extreme long shot giving the audience a clear explanation of where the film is set. the establishing shot is then moved on to show a silhouette of a character. The narrative device used here is enigma as this allows the audience to question who he is. The character appears as a very mysterious , who at this time, we know nothing about. the rest of the men follow behind him this suggests the first unknown character must be seen to be very important. the lighting is very dark and foggy
creating the atmosphere of the forest were the scene is set. this may also represent a dark side the unseen character has. Tracking shot is used to make it simpler for the audience to follow on. The diegetic
sounds heard in this scene are of animals and birds. The characters look very dirty and scruffy. As the scene is still going on the titles are sill appearing and sub titles. The place is establishes in the sub title (South America). the mysterious character is still not shown and a long shot of his back is seen at this point. This creates tension as the audience want to know who he is. the first 2 minutes are very slow paced on the other hand the last minute of the opening is very fast paced. There is a close up shot of a gun pointing towards the mysterious character and then suddenly he turns.
